This Human World

Austria, Vienna

Description

This human world was created in 2008 for the 60 jubilee of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the first and only festival of this kind created in Austria. The festival takes place in the beginning of December, with the 10th of December being Human Rights Day.

Every year, this human world tries to raise people’s awareness on actual human rights issues by showing movies that ally cinematographic quality and social engagement, inviting filmmakers who fight against everyday inequalities and injustices, who show us what has to be shown, who can’t accept the world the way it is. But because movies alone can’t do everything, this human world, in cooperation with local associations, research institutes and universities, schools and cultural institutions will organize debates after the screenings in order to make people aware, let them react, discuss, and express themselves. As we think that the most efficient way to widespread ideas is to let different types of art communicate, the festival programs concerts and exhibitions in the theaters and public places in Vienna as well.

This human world also cares deeply about the little creative human rights defenders. After the past successful experiences, the festival organizes again the pupils’ short film competition, which awards the best young filmmakers. This year the festival will devote a consequent part of its selection to the environmental issue, and like every year, to the children’s rights issue.
