Nordic Baltic Northern Lights Film Festival is an annual film festival that focuses on cinema from the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as films from Belarus and Ukraine. The festival was founded in 2015 in Belarus and originally took place in several cities, including Minsk, Gomel, Vitebsk, and Grodno. Since 2020, Northern Lights has been working in exile. Today, the festival runs in a hybrid format. Online screenings are available for Belarusian audiences, while offline screenings take place in European cities, including Tallinn, Warsaw, and Vilnius.
Northern Lights runs a competition program for Belarusian independent filmmakers. Many of these films are created in exile and cannot be screened inside Belarus on-site. One of the festival’s key missions is to support Belarusian filmmakers by making their work visible, helping them gain international experience, and connecting them to European film contexts.
Alongside screenings, the festival organizes Q&A sessions, talks, panel discussions, and small industry events. It also works through collaborations with other European film festivals and cultural partners to create opportunities for dialogue and professional growth for Belarusian filmmakers.
