Syrian filmmaker Orwa Nyrabia released
The Human Rights Film Network is pleased to announce that Syrian filmmaker, producer and filmfestival director Orwa Nyrabia has been released.Nyrabia had been arrested on August 23 at Damascus International Airport by Syrian authorities and was held underground for weeks. The reasons for his detention were obscure. Soon after his disappearance, the international filmcommunity started off a campaign to call for his release. According to his family, Nyrabia is 'strong and in good spirits'. Yesterday, Nyrabia published an open letter, expressing his gratitude:'Dear Friends in Syria and around our brave new world. Your outstanding solidarity with me, during my three weeks trip under Syria's ground, had the most touching impact. You have all made what could have been a much longer and more violent journey a much easier one, no matter how unforgettable it is.'The whole letter can be read on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/humanrightsfilmnetwork.
