Karama Yemen Human Rights Film Festival

to
Taiz, Hadramout, Aden (Yemen)

'Karama Yemen’ the first annual festival of human rights films in Yemen, was launched by YWT in 2018 and held in several Yemeni governorates. The festival acts as a window to the world, and a window into the Yemeni culture. It aims to advocate for human rights and social justice, invite debate, encourage critical thinking and civic engagement, and open democratic dialogue about human rights issues by screening films from various parts of the world. Karama Yemen has featured transformative films that focus on human rights worldwide, spotlighting Yemen. Moreover, it encourages youth talents and voices to express themselves away from stereotypes and misunderstandings and use art in communicating messages of human rights and equality between individuals.

The program consisting of compelling short films spanning fiction and documentary sheds light on the ground-breaking and authentic local artistic content often created in an extreme environment or through times of uncertainty and hardships. The range of films is selected to amplify the voices of those who have been stereotyped or misrepresented so that they can reclaim control of their rights through the power of film. The Festival also foster the talents of Yemeni filmmakers through providing MasterClasses conducted by professionals in the filmmaking industry.
